Professor Akpodiete Orienru Job

Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro

Professor Akpodiete Orienru Job is a distinguished professor of no mean repute, who has contributed immensely to society in the field of Agriculture. As a prolific writer, he has several publications in local and international books and journals. Prominent among his contributions to society and in the academia is his critical and veritable Inaugural Lecture titled ‘The Good in the Bad: Transforming Waste and the Harmfuls into Wealth’, which he delivered at the Delta State University, Abraka on July 8, 2016. Professor Akpodiete joined the services of Delta State University in December 1995 and rose through the rank to become a Professor in October 2008. He has held many academic positions among which are:

  • Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Asaba Campus (2013 – 2017)
  • General Coordinator, DELSU Investment Limited Farms (2013 – 2016)
  • Chairman, Exam Ethics & Malpractice Committee (2010 - 2015)
  • Member, University Committee on Conferences and Workshops (2010 – 2014)
  • H.O.D., Department of Animal Science (2009 – 2013)
  • Member, University Health Services Board (2010 – 2012)
  • Dean, Students’ Affairs (2003 - 2004)

He is currently the third Substantive Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, a position he assumed on March 28, 2017.

As a Professor of Agricultural Biochemistry and Animal Nutrition, he has extensively rendered academic services to other institutions as follows:

  • Curriculum review, Animal Science Programme for The Nigerian Institute of Animal Scientists
  • Moderator and external examiner for Post-Graduate Students, FUTA (2013 – 2015), Benson Idahosa University (2012 – 2015), University of Port-Harcourt (2013) and University of Ibadan (2010 – 2013)
  • External Assessor for professorial and associate professorial candidates (2010, 2014 and 2015)
  • Active representation to Delta State Agricultural Council

In addition, he has supervised well over sixteen (16) post-graduate students out of which are seven (7) Ph. D students. Professor Akpodiete, who dreams Agriculture, talks Agriculture and acts Agriculture, belongs to different agricultural professional bodies namely: Nigeria Society for Animal Production, Animal Science Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Environmental Society, The Nigerian Institute of Animal Scientist (NIAS) and World Poultry Society among others.

HIS EDUCATION

Professor Akpodiete had his secondary education at Government College, Bomadi, Delta State between 1976 and 1981 where he obtained his General Certificate of Education (GCE/‘O’ Level). He later proceeded to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) between 1983 and 1988 and bagged a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degree with Second Class (Honours) Upper Division in Animal Production and Health. In his quest to pursue a career in Agriculture, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he obtained M. Sc. degree in Animal Science between 1991 and 1992. The zeal to get to the summit of his career prompted him to enroll for Ph. D in Agricultural Biochemistry and Animal Nutrition at the University of Ibadan, which he successfully completed in June 1997.

His spiritual inclination was not without a boost. He enrolled at the Ezekiel College of Theology, Ujoelen, Ekpoma, Edo State where he obtained a Diploma in Theology between 2008 and 2011 and was ordained a Priest of the Anglican Communion. He has been able to balance his spirituality with his first love, academics. He is a father to all; driven with passion and dedication in his dealings with staff, students and the larger society. Professor Akpodiete’s wealth of experience has greatly improved and imparted on the agricultural programmes of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro since his appointment as Rector. To this end, academic culture as well as moral decency has since moderated the focus of staff and students towards excellence and quality teaching and learning. He is married to his heartthrob, Dr. (Mrs.) Hannah Modupe Akpodiete with whom he has three children: Promise, Favour and Ewoma.
