The Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro was established by Law enacted on January 1, 2002 during the administration of His Excellency Chief James Onanefe Ibori. The Polytechnic was established along with two other polytechnics, at Ogwashi-Uku and Otefe-Oghara, and a College of Physical Education, Mosogar (now College of Education, Mosogar).
At the inception, the three polytechnics and College of Physical Education were managed as the Delta State Higher Education Project (DSHEP) in partnership with the University of Westminster, London. This arrangement was designed to fast track the development of the institutions.
It is pertinent to state that prior to the establishment of the polytechnic, there was a College of Agriculture on ground which was later absorbed into the polytechnic. The Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro from inception has witnessed systematic and steady growth and development in terms of infrastructure and academic standard. The foregoing has made the polytechnic an enviable citadel of learning, a prestigious institution where students acquire quality education and skills in different disciplines that could make them job creators instead of job seekers
