About

The Department of Office Technology and Management
Welcome to the Department of Office Technology and Management, Delta State Polytechnic,
Ozoro. This department came into existence in 2002 but assumed full operations on 7th January,
2003. It is currently one of the six departments in the School of Business Studies.
Programme/Structure of the Department
The OTM department runs the National and Higher National Diploma programmes.
Eligibility
Phase 1 is the National Diploma that runs for two years. Students are admitted into the
programme after obtaining 5credits in not more than two sittings: these include English
Language, Mathematics, Literature and any other two from Commerce, Economics,
Government, Geography, etc. A National Diploma certificate is awarded to successful students at
the end of the two years programme.
Phase two is the Higher National Diploma that runs for another two years, at the end of which
the Higher National Diploma certificate in OTM is awarded for successful students. Eligibility
for this programme include the National Diploma and one year compulsory industrial training
(IT).
These programmes are designed to equip students with skills and abilities that prepares them for
business and office careers. On successful completion of the programmes, students can find
career opportunities in banks and any organization that runs an office or become can go
entrepreneurial.
Accreditation Status
The two programmes run by the department are fully accredited by the National Board for
Technical Education (NBTE).
Curriculum Structure
The curriculum structure of the two programmes (ND and HND) consist of four main
components: foundation courses; professional courses; general education courses and students’
industrial work experience (SIWES).
Academic Staff
The department is blessed with suitably qualified and competent academics and professionals
including three Ph.D holders, with both academic and industrial experiences that makes the
teaching of OTM courses a gainful experience to both lecturers and students.
Students
The students of the department are trained to be ethically compliant, disciplined and self-reliant
with emphasis on applied and practical knowledge. The students have a dress code that stands
them out on campus.
Course Enrichment
In addition to what is obtainable in the NBTE curriculum, the OTM department usually enriches
her curriculum by adding both local and current contents in order to meet with contemporary
issues in OTM to keep abreast with industrial demands.
